Lawsuit

Instagram's parent company agreed to a $68.5 million settlement over alleged collection of users' facial geometry without consent. No proof required; claims due by October 14, 2026.

Meta agreed to settle claims that Instagram's face-tagging and filter features collected and stored biometric identifiers of users without the informed written consent required under Illinois law. Meta denies the allegations.

The fund is distributed pro rata. The more valid claims filed, the smaller each share — early estimates put the typical payment between $30 and $400.

Eligibility

All Illinois residents who used Instagram at any time between August 10, 2015 and the opt-out deadline, and all U.S. users whose biometric data was collected through Instagram filters during that period.
