Wellstar settlement: who qualifies, how much and how to claim
Wellstar settlement: $4.25 million over alleged tracking on its website and MyChart portal. Claim by Nov. 10, 2026; no receipts needed. How to file.

Yes, claims are open until Nov. 10, 2026. If your information was disclosed to a third party through tracking tools on Wellstar's website or patient portal between Feb. 19, 2020 and July 22, 2026, you can claim a pro rata cash share of the $4,250,000 Wellstar settlement, and the claim form asks for no receipts or medical records. No per-person amount has been announced.
The court has preliminarily approved the deal and set a final approval hearing for Dec. 1, 2026. Filing with the administrator is free.
What the Wellstar settlement is about
The case is Doe v. Wellstar Health System, Inc., No. 1:24-cv-01748, in federal court in Atlanta before Judge J.P. Boulee. Four plaintiffs who sued under the names Jane Doe, Jane Doe #2, Jane Doe #3 and John Doe say Wellstar put Google and Meta tracking tools on its public website and its Wellstar MyChart patient portal. They allege those tools passed personal and health information about users to third parties, including Meta and Google.
Wellstar denies the allegations, and the court hasn't decided who is right. The case began April 23, 2024. In a ruling dated Aug. 21, 2025, the judge let the unjust enrichment and federal wiretap (Electronic Communications Privacy Act) claims go forward. After a mediation on June 17, 2026, the sides agreed to a $4,250,000 fund, and none of it goes back to Wellstar.
Hospital website-tracking suits follow a familiar pattern. Our write-up of the Atrium Health tracking-pixel case shows how a similar allegation plays out.
Who qualifies for the Wellstar settlement
You are in the class if you live in the U.S. and your information was disclosed to a third party between Feb. 19, 2020 and July 22, 2026 through tracking tools on Wellstar's website or patient portal. Court papers estimate about 870,000 people fit that description.
The definition doesn't mention being a patient or having a MyChart login. It turns on whether your information was disclosed through the site or portal, and the form warns that claims can be audited and verified. If you got an email or postcard with a unique ID and PIN, you are on the administrator's list.
Left out are the judge and court staff, Wellstar's officers, directors and affiliates, class counsel, and anyone who opts out.
How much you could get from the Wellstar settlement
The settlement pays pro rata, meaning every valid claimant gets an equal share of what is left after notice and administration costs, court-approved service awards ($2,500 for each class representative) and attorneys' fees and expenses. Class counsel will ask for one-third of the fund. No dollar amount per person has been announced, and any money left over goes to Good Samaritan Health Center of Cobb, subject to court approval.
You can sketch the range yourself. After a one-third fee, about $2,833,333 remains before administration costs. The fewer people who file, the bigger each share, as the illustration below shows. It is arithmetic, not a promise, and administration costs will pull every figure down a bit.
With no proof required, the number of claims can climb, which is why pro rata checks tend to be small. Compare this with other no-proof settlements and read why settlement checks are so small for the math behind pro rata splits.
| If this share of the roughly 870,000 class members files | Valid claims | Rough payout per claim |
|---|---|---|
| 1% | 8,700 | About $325 |
| 5% | 43,500 | About $65 |
| 10% | 87,000 | About $33 |

Is the Wellstar settlement legit?
Yes. The notice is court-approved, and the court granted preliminary approval on July 28, 2026. Epiq is the administrator, the official site is WellstarDataPrivacySettlement.com, and the toll-free number on the notice is 1-877-417-7863.
A real settlement never charges a fee to file and never asks for your Social Security number or a bank login. Be careful with texts or emails that push a link, and use the web address from your notice instead. Our guide to spotting settlement scams lists the usual red flags.
What happens after you file
The administrator reviews claims and can ask for more information. The court decides on final approval at the Dec. 1, 2026 hearing, and cash payments are provided only if it approves. The notice says that may take time. For the usual timeline, read how long settlement checks take.
