Is Owed legit? An honest look at how we work (and our limits)
Quick answer

Short answer: yes — but you shouldn't take our word for it. Owed is an app that finds the class-action settlements you qualify for and links you to the court-appointed administrator's official claim form, then tracks your claims to payout. We never hold your money and never take a percentage of anything; Owed Pro is one flat membership — $2 for the first week, then $49/year, cancel anytime. So, is Owed legit? We think so — and this page shows you how to check every claim we just made, yourself, in about five minutes.

4.5/5

First, the obvious: we're reviewing ourselves

We score every settlement app we review — Claim, Settlemate, MoneyPilot, Payout — and it would be odd to skip our own. But a company grading itself is exactly the kind of content you should discount. So here's the deal: we'll describe what Owed does and doesn't do in the same structure we use for competitors, we'll put the limits in their own section, and every factual claim is something you can check on a third-party site, in our Terms and Privacy Policy, or by using the free tier without handing over anything you can't take back. Treat the 4.5 as "we think we'd earn it"; the rest of this page is the evidence.

What Owed is (and isn't)

Owed is a finder and tracker. You answer a short eligibility quiz, optionally connect an inbox so we can spot confirmations and payment emails, and we match you against open, court-approved settlements — the kind in our settlements directory, from the TikTok privacy settlement to the Bank of America data-breach settlement. For each match we hand you the administrator's official claim form — the court-appointed one — with your answers ready to copy in. You file it yourself in about a minute; we track filed → approved → paid and remind you before deadlines.

What Owed is not: a law firm (we give no legal advice and never represent you), a claims administrator (we never decide or pay claims), and never a middleman — your claim goes on the official form, and any payout comes from the administrator straight to you. We never touch it.

What Owed costs, and how we make money

You can browse every settlement we track without an account. The product itself is Owed Pro: $2 for the first week, then $49/year — one flat membership covering your personal matches, claim tracking across every case you follow, email verification that filed claims were received and approved, and same-day alerts when new money opens up. Cancel anytime, in the app, in two taps.

How we make money is that membership — full stop. We never take a percentage of anything. Not of settlements, not of unclaimed property, not of refunds. The claims industry is full of finder's fees and 30% contingency cuts; our answer to "what's your cut?" is a flat fee you can see before you pay.

What we can't promise

This is the section a marketing page wouldn't have. We don't decide anything. Administrators decide whether your claim is valid, courts approve the settlement, and payouts are often pro rata — your share shrinks as more valid claims come in. Our "estimated payout" is a range based on the settlement's published terms, not a quote. Claims take months: typically 3–12 months after the deadline, sometimes longer if there's an appeal (see how long settlement checks take). Claims can be denied, audited or reduced, and that's the administrator's call, not ours — though we'll show the status and help you respond if documents are requested.

One more thing we can't do: file claims you don't qualify for. Every claim form is signed under penalty of perjury. Our quiz only surfaces what you tell us you've used; if you stretch the truth, the administrator can reject the claim, and you've wasted everyone's time. Honest answers get paid.

How we handle your data

To file a claim an administrator needs your name, address, email and usually a phone number — so we collect those, and for some claims the last purchases or account details the form asks for. Inbox connect is optional. If you turn it on, we look for receipts and order confirmations that prove eligibility for proof-required claims; we only read purchase-related mail, and you can disconnect at any time from your profile. You can also delete your account and all associated data from the bottom of your profile page. What we don't do: sell your claim data to law firms (that's a different business model — see our ClassAction.org review for how lead-gen sites work) or ask for your Social Security number, bank login or a fee to file. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Is Owed legit? How to verify us in five minutes

Don't trust a self-review. Do this instead:

And check our claims against reality — every one of these is verifiable in under a minute:

  1. Check a settlement we show you against a neutral source. Search the case name on ClassAction.org or find the administrator's official site. Same deadline, same payout terms? Good.
  2. Run the quiz without connecting anything. You'll see your matches before giving us a card (we never ask for one) or an inbox.
  3. After filing, look for the administrator's confirmation. Most official claim processes issue a claim number or confirmation email; that's your proof the claim exists outside Owed.
  4. Read the Terms and Privacy Policy. Look for the words "not a law firm" and the flat membership pricing. If our claims here don't match the documents, email us via the contact page and we'll fix the page.
  5. Read independent reviews. Owed reports 4.9★ from 12,400+ reviews (some are on our reviews page), but the app-store reviews and third-party sites are the unfiltered version. Weigh the complaints — they're usually about payout timing, which we don't control.
  6. Watch where the money comes from. Your payment arrives from the settlement administrator, in the method you chose. Owed never asks you to pay to release it.

What members say

A few reviews from the member reviews page, where every quote on this site lives in one place:

"Took me under a minute. Three weeks later I had two checks in the mail from companies I didn't even remember using." — Jakeeb, Austin TX

"The deadline reminders alone are worth it. I would have missed the streaming settlement completely." — Oishi, Seattle WA

"Filed the Bank of America breach claim in one tap. Biggest payout I've ever gotten from anything — and the tracker told me exactly when it was coming." — Priya, San Jose CA

Don't take our word for it — use it without an account

The fastest way to judge Owed isn't reading this review — it's using the parts that require nothing from you. No email, no account, no card:

  • Browse open settlements — payouts, deadlines, proof requirements, and the official claim link on every case.
  • Search unclaimed money — direct links to all 51 official state databases. If your state is holding your money, you'll see it on the state's own site.
  • Check a flight refund — what your airline owes under federal rules, with links to the DOT, not to us.

If those are useful, the 60-second match is the same honesty with your answers plugged in. If they're not, close the tab — they cost you nothing either way.

Where Owed falls short, and who shouldn't use it

If you enjoy doing it yourself, you don't need us. Every settlement has a free public claim site, and filing yourself vs. using an app is a fair fight if you're organised. If you don't want to share claimant details with any third party, file directly with the administrator. If you want a subscription manager today, ours is coming soon; MoneyPilot and Rocket Money have one now. If your claim is proof-heavy and you have the receipts, filing takes minutes — our guide to proof of purchase shows where to find them. And if you want legal advice about opting out or suing on your own, talk to a lawyer; we're software. Everyone else: see what you're owed, check it against the sources above, and decide.

FAQ

No. Owed links you to real, court-approved settlements on the administrator's own claim form, never holds your money, and charges nothing to find or match claims. Every case we list can be verified on the administrator's official site.

Never — of anything. You file on the official form and payouts come straight from the administrator to you. Our only revenue is the flat optional Pro membership.

One way: Owed Pro, an optional $49/year membership (with a $2 trial) for claim tracking, email verification and alerts. No percentages, no selling your data, no finder's fees.

No. Owed is software. We don't give legal advice, represent you or decide claims; settlement administrators and courts do that.

Optionally, to verify your claims from the administrator's own emails — confirmation, approval and payment notices — using per-case sender and keyword rules. You can skip it or disconnect anytime.

We're new, which is why this page exists. Judge us by the checkable parts: official claim links on every case, free tools that resolve to government sites, and a fee model with nothing hidden in it.
