Ulta price match and price adjustment: how to get the lower price
Ulta price match rules, the price adjustment window, which competitors count, and how to request the lower price in store or online in 2026.

Short answer. An ulta price match is limited: Ulta generally matches its own current in-store and Ulta.com prices, but it does not match most third-party retailers like Amazon, Target, or Sephora. If the price drops within about 14 days of your purchase, ask for a price adjustment with your receipt at the register, by calling guest services, or through an online chat for Ulta.com orders. Diamond and Platinum members sometimes get more flexibility, and clearance, doorbusters, and Beauty Steals are excluded.
What Ulta actually price matches
Ulta's price policy is narrower than most people think. In practice, Ulta will match its own prices between channels — so if an item rings up higher in store than it shows on Ulta.com, an associate can key in the online price. If a competitor beauty retailer is running the exact same SKU at a lower advertised price, some stores will match on a case-by-case basis, but it is not a guaranteed nationwide policy the way Target or Best Buy handle competitor matches.
Ulta generally does not match:
- Amazon, eBay, or other marketplaces (third-party sellers, gray-market inventory).
- Warehouse clubs like Costco or Sam's Club.
- Subscription box discounts, employee discounts, or influencer codes.
- Prices shown after coupon stacking or Ultamate Rewards point redemption.
Think of the match as Ulta vs. Ulta, not Ulta vs. the internet. When in doubt, pull up the Ulta app at the register and show the current price on the product page — that is the version associates are trained to honor.
The price adjustment window (and how to use it)
A price adjustment is different from a price match. It is what you request when you already bought something and the price then drops. Ulta's typical adjustment window is about 14 days from the purchase date, in line with the standard 60-day return policy's spirit but stricter on price changes. Some regional managers extend goodwill windows for loyalty members, but 14 days is the number to plan around.
To qualify, three things must be true:
- You have the original receipt or the order in your Ulta account.
- The item is still in stock at the lower price at the time you ask.
- The lower price is not a clearance, doorbuster, gift-with-purchase, or Beauty Steal.
Refunds are issued back to the original payment method. If you paid with a gift card, expect the difference back on a new gift card. In-store adjustments are usually instant; online adjustments can take 3–7 business days to post to your card. If your window has already closed by a day or two, it is still worth asking politely — associates have some discretion, especially for Diamond and Platinum members.
How to request a price match or adjustment
The exact channel matters. In-store purchases are handled at the register or guest services desk. Online orders (Ulta.com or the app) are handled through Ulta's chat or by phone. Don't drive to a store to fix an online order — the systems are separate and store associates usually can't refund an Ulta.com charge.
- Confirm the item still shows the lower price on Ulta.com or in the app — screenshot it.
- Locate your receipt (paper, emailed, or in the Order History tab of your account).
- For in-store buys: go to any Ulta and ask guest services for a price adjustment. Bring the receipt and the screenshot.
- For Ulta.com buys: open live chat from the Help page or call 1-866-983-8582 and give the order number.
- Ask them to refund the difference to the original payment method and to email a confirmation.
- Check your card or gift card 3–7 business days later to confirm the credit posted.
Exclusions: when Ulta will say no
Ulta trains associates to decline price matches and adjustments in a specific set of situations. Knowing them up front saves you a trip and a frustrating conversation. The most common denials are for time-boxed promotions — Ulta considers those events, not price changes.
| Situation | Match? | Adjustment? | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21 Days of Beauty / Beauty Steals | No | No | Time-limited event pricing |
| Black Friday & Cyber Monday doorbusters | No | No | Doorbuster carve-out |
| Gift-with-purchase promotions | No | No | Value is in the free item |
| Clearance markdowns | No | No | Final sale in most stores |
| Amazon or third-party marketplace price | No | No | Not an authorized retailer |
| Ulta.com lower than in store today | Yes | Yes | Same-retailer match |
| Price dropped 5 days after you bought | N/A | Usually yes | Within ~14-day window |
Diamond, Platinum, and credit card perks
Ultamate Rewards has three tiers — Member, Platinum ($500+ spent/year), and Diamond ($1,200+ spent/year). None of the tiers officially unlock a broader price match policy, but higher tiers do get you a friendlier ear at guest services when a request is borderline. Diamond members also get free standard shipping with no minimum, which sometimes changes the math on whether it's worth returning and rebuying.
The Ulta Beauty Rewards Mastercard (issued by Comenity) earns 2 points per $1 outside Ulta and layers on top of your base earn inside Ulta. It does not carry a formal price protection benefit the way some Chase or Amex cards do, so don't count on the card issuer to backstop a missed adjustment. If you paid with a card that does offer purchase price protection — a shrinking benefit, but still on a handful of premium cards — file that claim separately once Ulta declines. Keep the original receipt, the ad or screenshot showing the lower price, and Ulta's denial in writing.
What to do if Ulta denies your request
Denials happen, and most of the time the associate is following policy correctly. But you still have options. Start by escalating politely inside Ulta — ask for the store manager or, for online orders, ask the chat agent to loop in a supervisor. Reference the specific date, price, and SKU. If the item is within the 60-day return window, the return-and-rebuy workaround almost always works.
If you believe Ulta charged you a price different from what was clearly advertised (not just a price that later dropped), that's a consumer protection issue, not a courtesy request. You can:
- File a complaint with your state attorney general's consumer protection division.
- Report it to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- Dispute the overcharge with your credit card issuer as a billing error — you generally have 60 days from the statement date.
- File a BBB complaint against Ulta Beauty; the company does respond to most of them.
Separately, if a beauty brand has been sued for mislabeling or deceptive pricing, you may be part of an active case. Our guide to finding open class action settlements walks through where to look, and this piece on checking class membership explains how to confirm you qualify.
Beyond Ulta: other money you might be owed
Price adjustments are one small lever. If you shop at Ulta regularly, you're probably also buying from Sephora, Target, Amazon, and DoorDash — and a lot of those retailers have settled cases in the last two years for hidden fees, mislabeled charges, or data breaches. A few current examples from our settlements directory: the DoorDash hidden fees settlement pays a flat $15 with no proof, and the Bank of America data breach settlement pays $50 flat plus documented losses.
Class actions work differently from price adjustments — no receipt hunt, no store visit, just a claim form and a deadline. If you're new to how they work, start with what a class action lawsuit is and how the process actually plays out. You can also see what you're owed in about 30 seconds via a short quiz.
