Quick answer

The Skin360 settlement is open for claims until November 25, 2026. It is a $4.7 million fund from Kenvue Brands, formerly Johnson & Johnson Consumer, for people who ran a Skin360 skin assessment while in Illinois between December 9, 2019 and May 5, 2023. Approved claimants split the fund in equal shares, and class counsel's court filing estimates hundreds of dollars each, though the real figure depends on how many people claim. You do not upload a receipt, but you sign a statement under penalty of perjury that you used Skin360 in Illinois.

What the Skin360 settlement is about

Skin360 is a face-scan skin assessment offered through a mobile app and a web app under the Neutrogena and NeoStrata brands. Users sued Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc., now called Kenvue Brands LLC, in Melzer v. Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. (No. 3:22-cv-03149), in federal court in New Jersey before Judge Michael A. Shipp. They say the company collected, stored, shared and profited from face-geometry scans without the written notice and consent that Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) requires, and without a public data-retention policy.

The company denies breaking the law and says it did not collect, store, disclose or profit from anyone's biometric data. The settlement is not an admission, and the court has not decided who is right. Besides the cash fund, the company agreed to confirm that it deleted the images from Skin360 assessments during the class period and to keep a notice-and-consent process and a written retention policy. For more on why these cases pay the way they do, see our BIPA settlements guide.

Who qualifies for the Skin360 settlement

The class is any person who, while in Illinois, ran a Skin360 skin assessment on any version of the tool between December 9, 2019 and May 5, 2023, by app or by web. Where you were matters more than where you live now: the claim form asks for the dates you used Skin360 and, if you have since moved away, the dates you were in Illinois. Left out are the company and its affiliates, the judges and their families and staff, the lawyers on the case, and anyone who opts out.

The parties estimate the class at about 11,000 people. You do not upload a receipt or purchase record up front. The claim is signed under penalty of perjury, and the administrator can ask for ID or proof you were in Illinois, such as travel records or statements showing purchases there.

How much you could get from the Skin360 settlement

Nothing is fixed yet. The $4.7 million fund is non-reversionary, meaning none of it goes back to the company. After attorneys' fees (class counsel can ask for up to one-third), costs, service payments of up to $5,000 for each of four class representatives and administration expenses, what remains is divided equally among everyone with an approved claim. More claims mean smaller shares.

Class counsel's court filing gives two rough benchmarks. If all of the roughly 11,000 class members took part, the gross recovery would be about $427 each. Assuming a 35% claims rate, and after fees and service awards, they estimate about $769 per claimant. Those are the plaintiffs' own estimates built on the class size they assumed, not promises. Illinois law lets people seek $1,000 per negligent violation, which is why the deal is often measured against that figure.

How to file a Skin360 settlement claim

Filing directly with the settlement administrator is free. You file the claim yourself on the official form, either online through the Submit a Claim button on skin360bipasettlement.com or by printing the PDF form and mailing it. Each person gets one claim, and duplicates are rejected. If you are choosing a payment method, our guide to how settlement payments are sent compares the options, and the general claim walkthrough covers the basics.

  1. Confirm you ran a Skin360 assessment, in the app or on the web, while in Illinois between December 9, 2019 and May 5, 2023.
  2. Go to skin360bipasettlement.com and choose Submit a Claim, or download the mail-in claim form PDF from the site.
  3. Enter your name, mailing address, phone and email, plus the dates you used Skin360. If you no longer live in Illinois, add the dates you were there. The Settlement Claim ID box is marked as optional, so you can leave it blank if you have no notice.
  4. Pick how to be paid: Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, a prepaid digital Mastercard or a check.
  5. Sign the certification under penalty of perjury, then submit online by November 25, 2026, or mail it postmarked by that date to Skin360 BIPA Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 3116, Baton Rouge, LA 70821.
  6. Keep your confirmation. If the claim is rejected, the form says you will be told and given a chance to fix it.
Opting out has an earlier deadline. To keep the right to sue on your own, your exclusion request must be postmarked or emailed by November 10, 2026. Read how to opt out before you decide.

Key dates to know

Two deadlines matter now: November 10 is the last day to opt out or object, and November 25 is the last day to claim. The judge decides on final approval at a hearing in Trenton, New Jersey. The date can change, so check the settlement website.

Is the Skin360 settlement legit?

Yes. It is a federal class action settlement with a public docket (No. 3:22-cv-03149, District of New Jersey), a court order granting preliminary approval, and an administrator, Eisner Advisory Group LLC, that lists a toll-free line (1-888-706-4337) and a Baton Rouge mailing address. The official site calls itself the only authorized website for the case. The Submit a Claim button there opens the online claim portal at skin360bipasettlement.pnclassaction.com.

Do not pay anyone to file. The form asks for contact details, dates of use, a payment choice and a signature, not a Social Security number. Our guide to spotting settlement scams covers fake emails and look-alike sites.

What happens after you file

The administrator checks each claim for authenticity and completeness. Payments are due within 21 days after the Effective Date, the day court approval is final and all appeals are over. The judge hears the final approval request on December 17, 2026, and the notice warns that appeals can take more than a year, so expect payment in 2027 at the earliest. Checks expire 90 days after they are issued and are not replaced, so cash yours promptly or choose an electronic option. Typical waits are covered in how long settlement checks take.

Money from uncashed checks goes back to the class, and any amount that cannot practically be redistributed goes to the Electronic Privacy Information Center. If you want help tracking this one, Owed can match you to settlements, open the official claim form, remind you before deadlines and follow each claim to payout, while you submit the claim yourself. Try Owed and see the price below. Owed Pro is $2 for the first week, then $49 per year — one flat membership. Owed never takes a percentage of any payout. You can also browse more open cases in our settlements directory.
