Schnucks settlement: who gets $7 and how to claim
Quick answer

Short answer: The Schnucks settlement is open until November 3, 2026, and it pays a flat $7 per valid claim with no receipts. You qualify if you were a Schnucks Rewards member who redeemed points on tax-eligible items for personal or household use at a Missouri Schnucks, in store or online, between May 2, 2020 and August 7, 2026. Online claims need the Access Code and PIN from your notice, and filing directly with the administrator costs nothing. It's small money, but the form takes only a few minutes.

What the Schnucks settlement is about

The case is Garcia v. Schnuck Market, Inc., No. 25SL-CC04761, in the Circuit Court of St. Louis County, Missouri, before Judge Richard M. Stewart. Sharon Garcia sued on behalf of Schnucks Rewards members. The complaint says that when a shopper redeemed Rewards Points, Schnucks charged Missouri sales tax on the full price from before the points discount instead of on the lower price the shopper actually paid.

Schnucks denies it did anything wrong and says it settled to reach a quick, agreeable result. The court hasn't ruled for either side, and the settlement doesn't mean any law was broken. Beyond cash, Schnucks agreed to change its checkout system no later than March 31, 2027, so a points redemption counts as a pre-tax discount when Missouri sales tax is calculated.

The St. Louis County court has preliminarily approved the deal and the notice. The final approval hearing is set for December 4, 2026.

Who qualifies for the Schnucks settlement

You're in the class if all three of these are true:

  • You are or were a Schnucks Rewards member.
  • You redeemed Rewards Points on tax-eligible items at a Schnucks store in Missouri, in person or online, between May 2, 2020 and August 7, 2026.
  • You bought the items mainly for personal, family or household use.

Schnucks employees and their immediate families are excluded, along with the judge, the lawyers on the case and anyone who opts out. Schnucks estimates about 900,000 people are in the class. If you got a postcard or email about the settlement, you were identified as a likely member. Not sure? The official site says to check it, call 1-877-465-4814 or write to the administrator, and our guide to checking whether you're part of a class action shows the usual steps.

How much the Schnucks settlement pays

The payment is a flat $7.00 for each class member whose claim is valid. Schnucks agreed to pay valid claims up to about $6,300,000, which is what $7 for each of roughly 900,000 class members adds up to, and it pays that separately from the lawyers' fees and the administration costs. Class counsel will ask the court for up to $1,980,000 in fees and costs, and for $7,000 for the plaintiff.

One person gets one payment; the claim form asks you to confirm that it's your first and only claim. For a few minutes of work it's a fair trade, but it isn't life-changing, so don't spend an hour hunting for receipts. None are needed. How to file a Schnucks settlement claim

Filing directly with the administrator, Rust Consulting, is free, and you submit the claim yourself. Most people will use the online form.

  1. Find your notice. Email notices link straight to the claim form, and postcard notices print an Access Code and PIN on the front.
  2. Go to SchnucksTaxSettlement.com, open the Claim Form page and enter the Access Code and PIN.
  3. Choose how you want to be paid. The form asks you to pick a payment method, such as a check or a digital payment.
  4. Answer the confirmations honestly. The paper form has you confirm that this is your first and only claim, that you aren't a Schnucks employee or a relative of one, and that you mostly use your Rewards account for personal or household shopping.
  5. Submit by 11:59 p.m. Central Time on November 3, 2026.
  6. No postcard, or lost it? The claim page says you can download the paper form from the site's Documents page. Sign it and mail it to Garcia v Schnuck Settlement Administrator, c/o Rust Consulting, Inc. - 9258, PO Box 2599, Faribault, MN 55021-9599, postmarked by November 3, 2026. Paper claims can only be paid by check.
Tip: Have the phone number tied to your Schnucks Rewards account ready. The paper claim form asks for it, and so does the exclusion letter.

Schnucks settlement key dates

The claim, opt-out and objection deadlines all fall on the same day. The hearing is where the judge decides whether the deal is fair; you can attend, but you don't have to.

Is the Schnucks settlement legit?

Yes. It's a court-supervised settlement with an official site, SchnucksTaxSettlement.com, and Rust Consulting, Inc. as the administrator. The notice says it's approved by the court and is not a solicitation from a lawyer. The administrator's real contact details are 1-877-465-4814 and PO Box 2599, Faribault, MN 55021-9599.

You never pay to claim. A real notice carries an Access Code and PIN, and the paper form asks for your Rewards phone number, not a Social Security number or bank login. News and listing sites summarize the case but don't take claims; only the official site does. If a text, ad or site asks for a fee or sends you to a lookalike domain, ignore it and read how to spot class action settlement scams.

What happens after you file, and your other options

The administrator reviews each claim for timeliness and validity. If something is missing, it will email or write so you can fix it. Then the judge holds the December 4 hearing. If the settlement is approved and any appeals are resolved, payments go out. No date has been announced; see how long settlement checks usually take. Cash a paper check within 60 days of issue, because an uncashed check is voided and replaced once. Unclaimed money goes to ArchCity Defenders or another nonprofit, never back to Schnucks.

You can also opt out or object by November 3, 2026. Opting out means a written request, no payment and the right to sue Schnucks on your own. Objecting means telling the court why you dislike the deal while staying in the class. Doing nothing means no money, and you still give up the right to sue over these claims.

Owed finds the settlements you may qualify for, explains them in plain English, opens the official claim form, reminds you before deadlines and tracks each claim to payout. You submit the claim yourself. Owed Pro is $2 for the first week, then $49 per year — one flat membership. Owed never takes a percentage of any payout. Take the eligibility quiz or browse open settlements. This is general information, not legal advice. Owed isn't a law firm or the settlement administrator, and the court and administrator decide who qualifies and what they receive.
