What was recalled

This is a small, narrowly defined recall. The only product named is Momchipz Veggie Chips Broccoli Florets & Cauliflower in a 3 oz (85 g) package, UPC 6 28634 44216 6, with a best-before date of 2026 AUGUST 31. The recalling firm is Exotique Foods Inc, based in Ontario, Canada, and the brand is Momchipz.

FDA's listing describes the product simply as "Veggie Chips Broccoli Florets & Cauliflower" and the reason as "undeclared wheat." No other Momchipz flavors, sizes or best-before dates appear on the notice, so this article does not treat them as affected.

One wrinkle on the record: the company's announcement is dated Aug. 14, 2026, but FDA's publish date is Aug. 24, 2026, and a note at the top of the notice says that on Aug. 24 "the recalling firm updated their press release to correctly identify wheat, rather than gluten, as the allergen." If you saw an earlier version referring to gluten, the corrected notice is the one that counts.

Why it was recalled

The chips "may contain undeclared wheat," meaning wheat is present but not declared on the label. The notice states the risk in FDA's standard allergen terms: "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product."

The recall was not prompted by a customer complaint. According to the notice, it "was initiated based on a retail sample result provided by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency." In other words, a sample tested in Canada showed wheat, and Exotique Foods then recalled the product in the U.S. through a notice posted by FDA.

The Aug. 24, 2026 correction from "gluten" to "wheat" is worth noting because wheat is the allergen the notice now names, and it is the term to look for if you are checking labels for a household member with a wheat allergy.

For anyone without a wheat allergy or sensitivity, the notice does not describe a hazard. The recall exists to protect people who must avoid wheat and could not have known it was in the product. "No illnesses have been reported to date," the notice says. That is the full statement on the record as of FDA's Aug. 24, 2026 publish date; there was no update on the page when this article was written on Sept. 1, 2026.

The absence of reports fits the size of the recall. With 49 U.S. customers, the population exposed is small, and the recall was triggered by a regulator's lab sample rather than by anyone getting sick. It does not mean the product is safe for people with a wheat allergy: the notice's hazard statement, "serious or life-threatening allergic reaction," is FDA's standard language for an undeclared major allergen and applies regardless of whether anyone has reacted yet.
