5,825 cases of Fromm dog food recalled over possible metal pieces

What was recalled

The recall covers two canned wet dog foods from Fromm Family Foods:

• Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food, 12.2 oz per can, UPC 072705118700, lot code EP2A3306 551006, best by 032029. 3,852 cases.
• Fromm Diner Classics Milo's Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food, 12.5 oz per can, UPC 072705132324, lot code EP2A3306 551029, best by 032029. 1,973 cases.

Together that is 5,825 cases. The notice does not say how many cans are in a case, so this article does not convert cases into cans.

The company is explicit that the recall is limited: "There are no other Fromm products affected by this recall." Fromm dry foods, other wet recipes, and cans of these two recipes with a different best-by date are not included. FDA's listing describes the product type as Animal & Veterinary, Pet Food, the brand as Fromm and the product as "Fromm wet canned dog food."

Why it was recalled

The stated reason is "potential metal contamination." Fromm says the recall "was initiated after receiving complaints of metal contamination," and that it has identified the error and "put corrective actions in place to prevent this from happening again," in addition to its existing safety processes. The notice does not describe what the metal is, where in production it came from or how many complaints were received.

The company's own description of the hazard: "Dogs ingesting metal may exhibit symptoms such as choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort. Metal of any size, especially sharp pieces, can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including lacerations in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract." It adds that metal consumed in large amounts "can lead to gastrointestinal upset, partial blockage, and a risk of intestinal obstruction."

Owners whose dogs have eaten the affected product and are showing those symptoms are told to contact their veterinarian. The notice does not say whether any of the original complaints involved a dog that ate metal, only that complaints of contamination were received.

Where it was sold

Fromm says the recalled products "were distributed at neighborhood pet stores and online outlets in the United States and Canada." The notice does not name specific stores, chains, websites, states or provinces, and that is the full extent of the distribution detail on the record.

Because the recall spans two countries and online orders, the practical check is on the can itself: the product name, the lot code and the best-by date. If you buy Fromm online through a subscription or auto-ship, look at every can still on hand, not just the newest delivery, since the notice does not give a date range for when the affected cases shipped.

Two other pet food recalls were posted by FDA in late August 2026: the Northwest Naturals raw pet food recall (Salmonella and Listeria, announced Aug. 28) and the Breeder's Edge and Shelter's Choice kitten milk replacer recall (low nutrient levels, announced Aug. 26). They are unrelated to the Fromm recall.

How to identify the recalled cans

The recalled cans share one best-by date, 032029 (March 2029), and a lot code that begins EP2A3306. The full lot code differs by product: 551006 for the Turkey Pâté and 551029 for Milo's Meatloaf Pâté. The UPC confirms which product you have. All details below are as printed on the Aug. 21, 2026 notice.

Fromm's return instruction refers to the best-by date, so that is the quickest check: a can of either recipe with a best-by other than 032029 is not part of this recall. If the printing on the can is unreadable, the company's line is 1-800-325-6331.

Reported illnesses and injuries

As of the Aug. 21, 2026 announcement: "To date, there have been no reports of illness or injury related to the recalled products." The recall came from complaints about metal in the food, not from reports of sick dogs.

The notice was current as of Aug. 21, 2026, and FDA's listing had not been updated when this article was written on Sept. 1, 2026. If reports change, Fromm or FDA would post an update on the same notice page, so that page is the place to check rather than social media.

The symptoms the company asks owners to watch for are choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy and stomach discomfort. Fromm says owners whose dogs "have consumed any of the affected product and are exhibiting these symptoms should contact their veterinarian." The notice does not offer to cover veterinary costs, and this article does not suggest that it does.

What to do if you have it

The remedy as stated: "Consumers should stop feeding the product listed below to their dogs," and those who purchased either product with best by 032029 "are urged to return the product to your retailer." The notice does not use the word refund, so ask the retailer what it will provide when you return the cans.
