Costco price match and price adjustment: get the lower price
Quick answer

Short answer. Costco does not offer a traditional costco price match against outside retailers, but it does honor a price adjustment: if an item you bought drops in price at Costco within roughly 30 days, you can request a refund of the difference. In warehouse, bring your receipt to the membership counter; for Costco.com orders, submit a price adjustment request through your online account or contact customer service. If you're outside the window, Costco's generous return policy is often the fallback — return and rebuy at the lower price.

Does Costco price match other stores?

No — Costco generally does not match prices from outside retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Sam's Club or BJ's. The company's stated position is that its everyday warehouse pricing is already set as low as it can go, so there's no formal competitor price-match program at the register or on Costco.com.

What Costco does offer is an internal price adjustment: if the price of an item you bought drops at Costco (in warehouse or on Costco.com) within a short window after purchase, you can get the difference refunded. That's the tool most members mean when they search "costco price match" — it's really price protection on your own recent Costco purchases.

If you find a lower price at a competitor, your practical options are (1) buy it there, (2) use Costco's return policy to return the item and rebuy if the Costco price has since dropped, or (3) wait for the next Costco coupon book, since many items go on manufacturer-instant rebate every few weeks.

The price adjustment window (and how it works)

Costco's price adjustment policy typically gives you about 30 days from the purchase date to claim the difference if the same item drops in price. The window applies to both warehouse purchases and Costco.com orders, though the request process is slightly different for each (see the steps below).

You'll need proof of your original purchase — the paper receipt for a warehouse buy, or the order confirmation for an online order — plus the current lower price. For Costco.com, the system can usually look up both automatically once you're logged in. Refunds are issued to your original payment method; expect a few business days for a credit-card refund to post.

Two things trip people up. First, the item has to be the same SKU — a similar TV in a different size or model year won't count. Second, temporary member-only savings (the yellow "Instant Savings" coupon prices) do count as the current Costco price, so a coupon-book price drop within your window is a legitimate adjustment request.

Tip: Check the Costco coupon book the week after a big purchase — if your item shows up with instant savings and you're still inside the ~30-day window, you're owed the difference.

How to request a price adjustment in warehouse

In-store adjustments are handled at the membership counter (sometimes called member services), not the regular checkout lanes. Bring the item's original receipt and, if you can, a photo or printout showing the current lower price on the shelf or on Costco.com. You don't need to bring the physical item back for an adjustment — this is a price refund, not a return.

The member services rep will verify the current price in their system, calculate the difference (including any tax), and refund it to your original payment method. Cash purchases are typically refunded in cash on the spot.

  1. Locate your original Costco receipt (or reprint it from your membership account online).
  2. Confirm the item's current warehouse price — a phone photo of the shelf tag is enough.
  3. Go to the membership counter, not the regular register lines.
  4. Ask for a price adjustment and hand over the receipt plus the new price.
  5. Confirm the refund method and amount before you leave the counter.

How to request a Costco.com price adjustment

For Costco.com orders, the fastest path is the self-serve price adjustment tool inside your online account. Sign in, go to Orders & Returns, find the order, and look for a "Price Adjustment" or "Request Price Adjustment" link on the item. If the item currently shows a lower price and you're inside the window, the site will typically approve the refund in a few clicks.

If the link isn't there — for example, the promotion has technically ended, or it's a large/bulky item shipped by a third-party carrier — contact Costco.com Customer Service by chat or phone. Have the order number and the URL of the item showing the lower price ready.

What doesn't qualify (common exclusions)

Not everything is eligible for a Costco price adjustment. In practice, the exceptions tend to be:

  • Outside retailers. A lower Amazon or Walmart price is not grounds for an adjustment — Costco only adjusts to its own current price.
  • Clearance and "while supplies last" items. Costco tags items with an asterisk (*) on the price sign when the warehouse is not reordering. These are often excluded once the price is marked down.
  • Different model or SKU. A newer model year or different size at a lower price isn't the "same item" — no adjustment.
  • Purchases outside the window. Once you're past roughly 30 days, price adjustment is off the table, though a return may still be possible under Costco's return policy.
  • Costco Travel, gift cards, alcohol and tobacco. These carry their own rules and are generally excluded from standard adjustments.

If you're denied and think you shouldn't have been, ask a supervisor and cite the item's SKU and the current price. Front-line reps sometimes apply the policy more narrowly than it's written.

When adjustment fails: use the return policy

Costco's return policy is one of the most generous in retail. Most items can be returned for a full refund at any time, with a notable exception for electronics (TVs, computers, tablets, cameras, drones, major appliances, cell phones and similar), which have a 90-day return window from the date of receipt.

If you're outside the price adjustment window but the item has dropped in price and it's still within the return window, the workaround is straightforward: return the item and rebuy it at the lower price. You keep the delta, and Costco is generally fine with this — it's a documented member benefit, not a loophole.

If a return or adjustment is refused and you paid by credit card, you can also ask your card issuer about a price protection benefit (rare in 2026 but a few premium cards still offer it) or dispute a specific charge under the Fair Credit Billing Act if goods were misrepresented. For truly stuck disputes, escalate to Costco corporate customer service before considering a BBB complaint or a small-claims filing.

Beyond price adjustments: other money you may be owed

Price adjustments are just one lane of consumer refunds. If you shop online, use big platforms, or have had bank accounts for a while, there's a decent chance you qualify for open class-action settlements right now — many pay $10–$150 with no proof required. See the current list on settlements, and check background on what a class action lawsuit is and how the process works before you file.

FAQ

No. Costco does not price match outside retailers. It only adjusts to its own current in-warehouse or Costco.com price within roughly 30 days of your purchase.

Typically about 30 days from the date of purchase. If the same item drops in price at Costco during that window, you can request a refund of the difference.

Sign in, go to Orders & Returns, find the order, and click the Price Adjustment link on the eligible item. If it's not shown, contact Costco.com customer service with your order number.

Usually yes, as long as it's within the price adjustment window and it's the same SKU. Electronics also have a separate 90-day return window if adjustment isn't available.

Ask a supervisor at the membership counter, or escalate to Costco.com customer service. If you're still within the return window, you can return the item and rebuy at the lower price.

Yes. If your recent purchase appears in the current coupon book (Instant Savings) at a lower price and you're inside the window, that's a valid price adjustment request.
